November 2012 wood firing

Here are some pictures from the wood firing I took part in last weekend at Baltimore Clayworks. Currently the kiln is cooling down, I'll post pictures of the results sometime after thanksgiving.

Oct-Nov. Pendants

Here is the wide shot of what I have done for October and November so far. This run I think is done. I have a wood firing this upcoming weekend of the 16th.

moth pendants

Here is the front and back of two Moth Pendants I've been working on the last couple days. Yeah the back of the larger one does look like death's head, unintentional, or was it . . .

Sweating the small stuff

These are my runs of hand carved pendants. Porcelain cone 10-11 wood kiln fired. I have some low fire porcelain I haven't used yet, I plan on making some for electric fire, more color options I hope. I use black suede cord and tie it so it is adjustable, nothing too fancy (yet?) price range is like $20-$35. (please don't overwhelm me with requests... :( ) I don't know when I'll put some up on the web for sale, they go so quickly  right now they hardly make it to pictures. I'm slow. . .) Enjoy.
Third group. Most recent pendant/small stuff group (unload kiln in Baltimore on  august 1st)
Second group.  Most are already sold or on consignment at The Fells, in New Hampshire.
First group. Most are already sold or on consignment at The Fells, in  New Hampshire.

Carving Box

Here is a carving box I have finally finished, been working on it for a while, slow progress. I can get distracted easily.

Two lidded areas up top to put small works (pendants wrapped in plastic)  and a drawer on the right side for tools. The right side tray is for tools. The bottom front is slanted so I can have it on my lap on the couch and can get close to my face while carving pots and still comfortably drop scraps into the large tray on the left.

I used bamboo I've had laying around for a while, which I've used to make brushes and other things over time. The wood is several different types of nice veneer plywood I got dumpster diving. Nice project, it should decrease the mess I make at home, sure beats a brownie pan.

Feathery Pitcher pt. 2

Removed the braces, and finished the rough carving. Good decision.

Feathery pitcher

Threw and carved everything in one sitting, it was a long  9 hours.  Not sure if I like the cross braces on it, I'll give it a few days before I decide to ditch them or not.

Huge Pitcher

Wheel thrown about 20lbs, 14 inches I think.
